How to approach girls in a college gym (with headphones)?

If that's a concern wait until they are done then approach them. I assume you won't while on the job, that may not be a good idea. Just walk up to her and start a conversation. If she's interested she'll keep the convo going. If she looks uneasy or uninterested, just end it there. Don't make things awkward.

Well were supposed to be friendly and interacting with people while were working so it would be better if it was during work.

I mean as long as you're not trying to ask her out or anything. Some girls like to be hit on if it's subtle enough.

Stand by the free weights, just hold the heaviest ones and grunt as loud as you can get. Wait until one notices, make your move.

Whenever a girl is wearing headphones and you want to talk to her, the best way to do it is to wear headphones yourself. Then you walk over, make eye contact, take out one earphone, and start talking. It is a bargaining chip. Works every time, guaranteed.

no. you have to wait until they're done with their workout. they came there with an express purpose, and it's not to get hit on. a lot of girls are crazy about their work outs. wait till they're leaving, then strike up the conversation. "i've noticed you here a few times..."

surely most of them are not arriving AND leaving without removing the headphones.

As another female POV, she is absolutely right. Definitely wait till after but in no way don't be afraid to talk.

If she thinks you're worth it, she'll take the headphones off. I feel the same as you about the creep shield. It's too bad, but girls have to watch out.

If you work there, you don't need to be "hitting" on them, as you'll be seeing the same girls regularly. Just be friendly and joke with everyone at the gym - guys, girls, fat, short, tall whatever. Friendships and potential relationships will just happen. Girls love it when you are confident and friendly, but not going for the goal pick-up. They want to feel like they can attract you. Become the guy they talk to their friends about. "there's this guy at the gym who seems pretty cool, says hi to me most days, and everyone seems to like him...."

when you aim for the "pickup", you're gonna miss 9/10, but if you're just being the man, you're always the winner.

They are wearing headphones so they won't be bothered. But since you work there, they are familiar with you. When you see someone that interests you on one of the machines.....walk up and ask her if the machine is working all right, since it was giving someone some trouble earlier and you wanted to make sure that it was now fine. Then talk to her for about 30 seconds and then get back to work. If she is interesed the next move is hers.
