I’m training to race primarily 5Ks this spring, culminating with a big race at the end of May. I would like to use Pete Magill’s 5K program found here:

Pete basically has two different phases:
1) A base building phase (he wrote up a 2 week sample), which he says to do “several times before your racing season starts.”
2) A race phase (also 2 week sample), which he says to do “before your key 5K races.”
My question is, if I want to race from March-May (a couple of times per month), how long would I stretch Phase 1 and Phase 2? For example, should I do the base building phase from February through March, and then do the race phase from April through May?
I’m male, 40, average 65 MPW, run high 16s/low 17s for 5K. Thanks
