I agree. He wasn't going to run well. He's never going to run a great marathon (sub 2:08 for him). He's doing it to pay the bills. He should run track. If he focused on it, he could challenge for a medal in the 10k like Solinsky. He has to get back into 12:56 (~sub 27 shape) and he can challenge for the bronze in 2012.
2012 Olympic 10k Team: Solinsky, Rupp, Ritz
If that's the team, those guys can control the pace and use team tactics to get at least one of them in the top 3.

Personally I think Ritz WILL run a good marathon, it's just that he hasn't had the proper training for one yet. He needs to get used to the pounding on the legs, which might be hard for him. If Sal took an entire year leading up to a marathon to slowly build his base instead of rushing into race after race I bet we would finally see a healthy Ritz.
