Egypt's "Day of Rage" - How far will this go?

You are confused. The whole "day of rage" was a term used for demonstrations in Lebanon, although it is applicable for the situation in Egypt.

I would have to say that the Middle East is going through a phase very much like East Europe in the '80s, where one country's communist dictatorship fell, and now the domino effect is taking forth. Hopefully positive change will result from this as the Arab world is becoming furious at corrupt people whose only ideology is hoarding power for themselves.

I stand corrected; looks like Egypt's is being called the "Day of Wrath". Nonetheless.

This is as true of the American power elite as it is of any twpo bit dictatorship in the Middle East -- many of whom (Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia) are propped up by (and are puppets of) the USA and do not represent the people at all. The collapse of these dictatorships will be a good thing -- but our media will report it otherwise and we may find ourselves dragged into more mid east wars.

Thanks man, I started that other thread but didn't get much agreement with the eastern Europe comparison.

I don't believe these possible govt. changes are going to lead to radical Islam, too many young, educated people involved, there are alot of young people in the mideast who aren't lovers of radical Islam.

Does it make sense to replace one repressive system with another.

You also have been taking a nap. I suppose you are aware of the CIA coup in Iran in 1953? Mohammed Mossadegh wanted to nationalize oil revenues, which were usurped by British companies and left the Iranian populace impoverished. Britain then convinced Eisenhower that Iran was turning to communism, so the CIA toppled Mossadegh- keeping the Shah in total power of Iran.

The hostage crisis took place because Iranians feared that Americans would do the same thing to Khomeini- after all, the CIA coup was executed from the American embassy.

And yes, in terms of the Iranian spectrum, the Iranian government prior to 2005 was on our scale "moderate:" it helped the US topple the Taliban after 9/11 and even offered to scrap its nuclear program, but Bush and his cronies dismissed these moves.

Hopefully someday you'll realize why these people act the way they do.
