The letter is pure comic gold:

Discuss!

I read the article and the letter. I'm not seeing much hilarity.
your definition of hilarity is different from mine.
It is amusing. Donor with huge ego and huge demands.
I wonder what Phil Knight and Nike would do if the Oregon Ducks switched to running in Adidas gear.
Different situation.

Already did once, Dellinger switched the Oregon team to Adidas in the 80's(?). Its talked about a little in the Bowerman book, I don't know what Knight's reaction was but Bowerman, who had differences with Dellinger before, didn't take it well from what I remember reading.
the guy brings up a lot of good points about the UCONN AD.
Burton is just a guy who threw his money around in an attempt to get control of decisions that just aren't his to make. He is basically acting like a child who didn't get his way.
Read the letter.
Amazing how stupid people end up wealthy....
Sounds like he should apply for the AD if the gets fired. Then he can deal with million dollar peanut galleries.
Good for the AD for standing up to a self-serving blow hard. Even though it will likely get him fired.
Isn't Lew Perkins the dude that just got ran out of Larwerance(KU)? Sounds like this guy was his Uconn version of a ticket scandal...
bahahahaha
i love that he CC'd the Governor of the state!
I read the letter. I give the guy a lot of credit for donating that much money to that program. However, unless he was promised a major role in the decision making process, he should not assume the money bought that role.
On the other hand, if UCONN truly believes they have a big time program and the search committee was indeed made up of 3 members, including the AD, maybe there is a problem.
what a dumbass haha, i read the letter and it actually was really entertaining! dumb guy thinks he's phil night, he must have read that recent article about the power phil night has over in oregon and wanted a piece of that power!!! too bad what a dumbass haha
The worst part of being an AD or university president must be dealing with rich douchebags.
"We want our money and our respect back." He might get his money, but he has lost respect forever. He is even discussing how he employs 10,000 people in CT and it seems like he is making a vailed threat to move to another state. I say everyone in CT boycotts his printing company.
what a f***ng tool bag. he quoted some evangelist lol.
op where are you from
the day is my home news paper
He needs to take some of that money and support XC. What about all the skinny guys who can't get a scholarship OR work in a coal mine?

The Day was actually credited with first breaking the story, it was linked in Deadspin and Sportscenter referenced it as well, being from CT it was funny seeing a smallish paper like it on national TV.
