Shoe weight/type question

An efficient runner should never run in anything over 10oz even on easy runs. Runners should be running in performance trainers for your recovery runs and racing flats for tempos and initervals to maintain the faster paces and falling into the rythm of race pace. However, if you are an inefficient hobbyjogger, which I am guessing you are based on your question, then whatever you want to jog in is fine so quit wasting our time so we can get back to discussions that only real runners can have.

I think it is more beneficial to train what you would race in, at least for the faster stuff.

That way you work all the smaller muscles you would not use wearing a trainer and can practice running more comfortably at the same speed with a more efficient stride, apposed to running in trainers.

The problem is that there is no best shoe to run in since we are designed to run barefoot. You need to start phasing out your shoes by getting some vibrams and slowly move away from them so you are not ever wearing any shoes at all.

Yeah, and that's why Geb runs in some of Adidas' most bulky trainers. There are plenty of other elites who do most of their running in non-minimalist shoes as well.

I'm not disagreeing with you, in fact I love running in performance trainers as much as possible, but you can't just generalize like this. Everyone is different, it all comes down to preference there is no "rule" that efficient runners have to run in lightweight shoes all the time.
