TeamA down by 2pts with 1 second left on the clock rebounds a missed free throw by TeamB. Player on TeamA launches a high arching full court shot, and while the ball is in the air, time expires and the buzzer goes off. Shot is well short, takes a big bounce, but goes in the basket on the bounce without touching another player. Count or not?

Now, if the free throw had been made and the ball was inbounded and bounced into the basket like that, the basket wouldn't count because an inbounding player can't score directly, but the clock wouldn't expire either since the clock doesn't start until the ball is touched by a player on the court, which didn't happen. Inbound the ball again.

I have confirmed this with several other coaches (two high school and three college). I thought it went unsaid, but understood that it had to be touched by a player on the floor for it to count, because even as stated by another the clock does not start until it is touched by an player. I will be at a coaches/officials clinic this evening and I will ask one of the officials what his take is on it.
I spoke to several basketball officials last night and after an initial it could not happen they discussed it and all came up with the same reply- the basket would count. One had also given a actual example of something that was somewhat related. Same type of a game where there was about a second left in the game. The team inbounding (they were winningby two points) it just threw it in the air. It bounced and laid there on the floor. Well the clock was supposed be started when the ball was touched by a player. It never was a fan picked it up over a minute after it lay there. Both teams just lined up and shook hands.
