Greta Waitz and Sebastian Coe are the first elite-elite runners that pop up low on the list.
That's an interesting list, but leaves off interesting historical figures.
I went to the link, and saw Abeylegesse--wow.
This can't be right. I cannot believe that El Guerrouj has a lower BMI than Paul Tergat or Shalane Flanagan.
And there's no way that Kara Goucher has the same BMI as Shalane Flanagan. Just look at their bodies. It's impossible. Same for Brian Sell and Bernard Lagat. I could keep going.
I have the same BMI as PRE, lol.
I too found the Goucher/Flanagan thing odd.
I've got to put in a plug here for bone density and size. My friend has this one daughter who I swear is made of lead.
She's small, only 8 yrs old, but MAN is she dense. It catches me off-guard every time I pick her up and throw her in the pool. She's like a fire hydrant.
They must have done Goucher's measurement when she was exceptionally light for some reason.
My BMI is 26.5--I guess I have no future even as low as 800m!

Sell and Lagat about the same, I can believe that. Not sure why not.
El G lower than Shalane, I can believe that too. Skinny dude. Kind of surprised to see him lower than Tergat, though.
I'm the same as Mottram, guess I'll take that. He probably has 5 or 6 inches on me though.
I think BMI is somewhat biased against short people. Meaning that shorter guys will tend to have fairly high BMI even at low bodyfat. See: Bekele, Geb
