Most blatant NCAA violations you witnessed your school get away with?

not sure if it's a violation but i remember a few years back, Virginia Tech football players were living in section 8 housing to save money. on the news story about them the camera did a shot of the parking lot at the apartment complex and it was all really nice cars parked outside.

My coach sent me out on a tempo with the team on my recruiting trip. pretty sure it's illegal to practice with the teamon a recruiting trip, atleast for D1 not sure if that's the case in D3 though which is what my school was.

I didn't care, and was happy to go for a run with the team,but it might not have been illegal, and I almost felt like it was a try out sending me out on a 7 mile tempo on my recruiting trip, but whatever.

The coach later told me he was really impressed and knew I was a tough runner after I hung with his varsity runners.

I did PR for 5 6 and 7 miles that day doing 7 in 39:40

I was an ath dept intern once. I was shocked that every school I went to had set it's admissions criterion low enough to allow football and mens & womens basketball preps with C- GPAs to get in. The Presidents and BoT's only cared about alumi money which of course is tied to the football team, mens basketball team, and womens basketball team. Every school manipulated the student-athletes to earn the most alumni dollars for their little medieval fiefdoms. They didn't give a damn about the students.

Or, more likely, they understood that the best way to help the students was to have more money, a concept that is clearly over your head.

I am thinking that it wasnt against the rules for D3, at least not back when i was making visits. I couldnt run with the D1 guys when i went to visit, but I also did a fartlek workout with the D3 I visited.

I've gone on easy runs with guys on recruiting trips (D1), not sure if this was illegal or not. But if we're both going to be running, why not?

It's only illegal, now at least, to have the coach observe you during that practice session. You are allowed to run with the guys as long as the coach isn't watching.

There is a local small college who uses a volunteer coach who is a head coach at a local high school. That seems higly illegal and I would love to turn him in...

In all NCAA divisions, it is illegal for a coach to supervise a workout of a recruit. So it would be illegal if the coach sent you on a tempo and then biked next to you the whole time, even in D3. You can always go running with the current members of the team without any violation, provided the coach is not watching you.

So I don't think your tempo was illegal. The purpose of the rule is to prevent tryouts, so maybe the NCAA would frown if the coach sent you on a tempo and then had his captain report back about your performance, but it seems like it would be legal by the letter of the law.

DI. Given a grade to a class one never attended or registered.

I watched my AD fill out reimbursement paper work for another team sport and he changed/falsified the return date to get an extra 2k. His quote when I told him that was the wrong date"its the NCAA they will never know and we get the extra cash."

I reported it to the VP's at school and NCAA. He is still the AD.

The Illini basketball teams of the mid to late 80s had a suspiciously large number of team members driving new Chevy Blazers.

The football team was the only half decent team at my school. BCS conference team. Certain luxury items that dozens of kids had, cell phones most notably. Kids had the same models and way out of any college kid's budget. Also witnessed teachers(more than one) handing out copies of tests prior to the official date to players early before classes. Morons still got C's too. I know it's not a violation, but kids in certain sports got "study guides" for every class. You sports like played Tennis or XC, no study guides.
