I notice a lot of threads on LetsRun where there seems to be two general sides to an issue -- abortion, affairs, gun control, homosexuality, debt, yadaya. And it seems to me that for people who support one side of an issue, it can generally be predicted what their opinions on the other issues will be as well (not always of course, but for a lot).
It seems that this fundamental difference in definitions for right and wrong has no apparent resolution with regard to an eventual consensus. And it seems that the country's leaders swing back and forth between passing laws only to have the opposite group remove them once it is their turn in power.
So...
Why do we deal with this? Wouldn't it be easier if there were just two halves where people could choose to live on the side that better fit their ideology? I realize America is a country of diversity, but I always thought this applied more to race and personality than opinions on morality.
Of course it would never happen, but if we had started out that way do you think we would have more or less problems now? With separate but homologous halves, economic and social decisions would be executed much more efficiently and quickly, giving benefits to both sides.
Thoughts welcome.
