From a physiological standpoint, if you have anger problems, you may be hypoglycemic, aka have low blood sugar.

One positive in your post I noticed is that you said you feel some remorse and are admitting you have a problem, so you realize you can't live your life like that.

I doubt that would work seeing as how I am a devout Atheist. Maybe that's my problem?

Don't see a psychologist, it will go on your permanent medical record, and prevent you from obtaining numerous jobs, and preclude you from membership in certain professions. Just read the books mentioned, lift some weights, up the mileage, and deal with it.

I don't know why this happens. But most people think of me as an overall nice guy I suppose. But in certain instances, I will do things that in hindsight are simply not nice. Hm, I had a friend during my undergraduate years who acted the way you did. We used to smoke pot and then ride our bicycles through these trails near campus because we were the only people in our extended group of friends who liked endurance sports like road/mountain biking. Some of those rides are really fond memories of mine. Then one afternoon, I came to his apartment to hang out with him and his roomates and he accused me for no reason of "mooching" off of him and I offered to compensate him but he was being completely unreasonable. I apologized for whatever I had done and he just told me to f*ck off and said some other disparaging things to me. In all honesty, I had confided in him a lot and thought we were close friends at the time. All of this happened seemingly out of the blue. I later talked to his roomates and they said that these unexplainable fits of anger with no merits were not uncommon I was not the only victim of his horrible temper.

Looking back, it really is a shame. I have not talked to him in years but it really is a shame. He was athletic, reasonably intelligent, and strikingly good-looking. But, he was extremely unhappy. He could have had everything in the world if he had just allowed himself to do so.

Sounds like you are a nice person but have a short fuse. Assholes feel no remorse.

You need to remove yourself from a situation when you can feel yourself bubbling over. Pull yourself out of the game, take a quick walk, calm yourself down. Just say you have to take a piss and take a long walk to the bathroom. I used to have the same problem. I thought that if I handled a situation calmly I would look like a wuss, now I realize that escalating any situation just makes you a psychopath.

Although, your sexual frustration theory is a good one since you are on Letsrun. Why not institute a disciplined and rigorous masturbation schedule and see if your situation improves?

You are just aggressive. Insecurity? Sexual frustration? How about that a million years ago your ancestors needed those impulses to fight wild beasts and rival tribes? Sure they aren't as constructive in today's safer world, but there probably isn't anything wrong with you. Just work on having more self control.

well, i think you are on the right track (by recognizing the situation). Like, you i am not one to go see anyone; I prefer to solve most problems on my own. I don't think i ever had this problem to the extent that you do, but i will share my story and give a solution.

When i was a senior in hs i saw some underclassmen goofing off one day when they were supposed to be working. I just ripped into them. (i had never done anything like that before, and was shocked afterward that i was did what i did...and wondered what triggered it.)

i realized this is exactly how my dad reacts to us kids when he comes home or is watching TV and we are being loud after being told 10 times to be quiet.

But because i recongnized my problem - I pretty much just decided i would never do it again - and didn't.

Now in your case since this has become more of a long-term pattern, it probably won't be so easily resolved, but i think the same kind of approach could work.

When you feel yourself about to go off on someone - stop yourself.

If you have already gone off and just realize what you did was way over the top; 1) recongnize that this is good that you can see that what you did was wrong - that is the first step, now 2) simply follow it up by accepting responsiblity for what you just did and appolgive to the person. Hopefully after doing this several time (accepting resposiblity and the remorse that comes with it) you will begin to stop the action mid-stream or even before you go off rather than after the fact.

either way your questioning of yourself right now - is a good sign. some people who do these things either never think that they did something wrong or don;t think that way for a long time after the fact. So you see you are already on your way to solving this.
