England has very cheap flights and packages. You can do the tourist things and even take the Chunnel to France.

The pros. Oh so very affordable. The dollar goes along way in Mexico. The food is fantastic, the beaches are great, the area is beautiful, the nightlife rocks, and there is tons to do in the daytime as well like zip line canopy tours, boat tour, parasailing, horseback riding, whale watching in the winter time, snorkling, cliff diving (if you're the wild kind) ohhh and the best part??? The most amazing sunsets in the evening which are wonderfully romantic. If you want to save even more money, go during the summer months (slow season in Puerto Vallarta) the hotel rates are half the price, plus there are less people than in the winter.

The cons...well there aren't any :). PV is also very, very safe. You can walk at 3 in the morning in the city with no worries. I went there this past summer and fell in love. It's a great place to have fun and a ridiculously low price. My hotel was $40 a night and it had the most amazing ocean views ever. I loved watching the sunsets from my balcony and feeling that warm ocean breeze all over my sking. Greatest feeling in the world.

My wife and I went to Disney World and were treated like royalty. If you go, stay on resort and get the meal plan. I had no idea that WDW had such great places to eat. My wife was hesitant about doing the mouse for honeymoon but she loved it.

The chances of getting sick during a week in Mexico, are very, very high. You can follow all the recommended rules...bottled water, don't eat this/that and the chances are still very, very high. I agree with this poster's assessment, but someone in that room is getting the squirts.

Bermuda might be a nice choice, the flights there are much cheaper these days. I think driving around France or Italy or Spain might be nice, train travel is easy too in Italy and France (don't know about Spain) if you travel light. Consider a plan where you stay in a dirt cheap place the first nights working your way up to one blowout night at a great place. Love London but you will want to get out of town after a few days.

what time of year will this be?

i would generally advise against booking a flight+hotel package at a place like the sites you mentioned, or expedia, travelocity, etc., even though doing so might save you a little money.

for something like a honeymoon i would be looking at tripadvisor.com and lonelyplanet.com and similar sites to try to find the really special, smaller hotels. (after you pick one out, you might then go back and see if you can get a flight+hotel deal somewhere).

second question is what type of travel do you have in mind? some people want beachfront relaxation for most or all of their honeymoon. is that you? if so, obviously europe doesn't make much sense.

are you looking for a relaxing stay in a small town or in the country? in the mountains? a mixture of big city and smaller town/village? only big city/cities?

europe can offer any of these things, and many places in north america, asia and australia/new zealand can too.

instead of us just randomly tossing out places, maybe you can tell us a bit more about your desires.

Where in the US (presumably) are you located? Hawaii might be more reasonable for someone on the west coast, but that is where my brother went. Make sure you keep it relaxing. Europe might not be the most relaxing spot. Hopefully the PNSO doesn't catch up with you soon, brother!

I agree with Puerto Vallarta. My family took me many times as a kid. It was one of our favorite vacation spots. Last summer I went to Mexico City for 1 week, central Mexico for 2 weeks, and back to Puerto Vallarta for 1 week. I went with my girlfirend who had never been and had a blast. Now she won't stop talking about how we need to get back there for spring break and so on. It's a cool place. I recommend it for couples.

I know this is rather unconventional, but my wife and I got eurail passes and bummed around europe for 3 weeks on our honeymoon, going wherever struck our fancy that day and staying at inexpensive places rather than fancy hotels. It was awesome.

If looking for quiet and tranquil in summer months...consider a spa like resort in ICELAND. Not too many touristy things to do but the landscape is absolutely surreal. Not too far away either.

We did Hawaii, and it was great! Not going to able to do that for under $3000 though. We were fortunately able to cash in frequent flier miles for flights. Based on my brother's and his wife's report, I can tell you to not go to Aruba.

Look up some high end motor tours like Tauck to use in picking destination areas you might like. For three grand you want to stay domestic or very afforable flights. Money on the ground is more important in getting a bang for your buck. Using the motor tour routes and pick a 3 or 4 day span in one that you both like. In a week away that is a lot to do on a honeymoon. Just being alone and away from all the wedding angst let's you decompress and truthfully a chance to mend some of the fences that ALWAYS get broken during the wedding planing. Honeymoons should be more about being together that packing a zillion things in. You have a lifetime to vacation but one honeymoon to be newlyweds.
