I have a female high school runner I coach who is rather advanced (been running awhile now) and does a good amount of mileage.
We have some blood work done 3 times a year to monitor her iron, ferritin, vitamin D, hemoglobin and RBC levels.
We have her on a moderate supplement program (iron, calcium, vitamin D).
We are seeing an unusal (to use) situation for the past 18 months, her ferritin levls are low (18-20) but her iron levels in her blood are pretty high (140-145).
We are afraid to supplement any more with the iron than we do already because it would likely raise the iron in her blood as well.
I was wondering is any doctors or nutritionists on the message board could give us any ideas. We'd like to get her ferritin levels above 30 if we can without having iron level any higher in her blood.
Any legit help is appreciated.
