I've been neglecting striders and core conditioning for about 6 months. Other than those two factors my actual training has contained all of the other essentials: long runs, steady states, fartleks, intervals (short and long), and, of course, sufficient recovery between workouts.
I decided to enter a 5 mile race in a month which I'm treating as a tune up for a mini in the spring. I haven't raced since August but I have not stopped training. I feel good about my condition but I know it could be better given the two factors mentioned above. I don't plan on peaking for the race but I will probably do a slight taper.
Given these conditions mentioned above, what type of core routine would you suggest I do? As far as striders go how many should I do, when should they be done (hard days, easy days, both?), and when do I increase repetitions? Do repetitions decrease closer to race day?
Finally, how much difference do you think these factors make for a well conditioned runner?
Thanks in advance.
