Yes, anymore word on this? Sad news.
James was a real funny dude. Sorry to hear that. I ran against him and you (Sawe) in college and on the roads.
Sorry for this, Simon.
James Bungei dominated the NAIA National Championships in the early 90's on a Lubbock Christian team that went undefeated against EVERYONE in the country from all divisions one season. If letsrun had been around back then then most people would know who this guy was.
RIP James.
Anyone know the cause?
And FYI here is his IAAF profile. I'm certain he had faster PRs in the sub-28 range for 10km.

He blessed us. Peace
Days like this really make me think about the guys who have lead by example.
James was an incredible example of a humble man who used his talents to inspire and motivate.
It's too bad he had to go so soon.
Peace be with those who knew him best.
wasn't that long ago I remember doing some speedwork with he and his wife Christie, Shelly Steeley, Elva Dryer and other speedsters at Sandia High School. Not sure what happened, but tragic news indeed.
That's too bad. I raced him a bunch, and mostly finihing behind him. I think he had a son named Preston. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. He was definitely a good guy.
I am still shocked and heartbroken about the passing away of my team mate and friend James Bungei. James was funny, smart , and carrying. love you bro RIP
Does anyone have the obituary?
It's very sad hearing about JB, RIP HE'S IN A BETTER PLACE
Unfortunately this is not a cruel joke:

Thanks so much for the obit posting.
Very sad indeed. RIP
