I am looking to make some flowcharts and am trying to figure out the best software to use, either free or relatively cheap. It sounds like Visio is the standard, but I can't pay $200 for it and don't wish to pirate it. It looks like Breezetree could be an option. Anybody else have any ideas? I'd prefer open source / freeware.

If you can't use Visio, use the Open Office equivalent. It's a no-brainer.

Agreed, but it's kind of a necessary evil, much like most of microsoft's software.
mxgraph.com is simple and free. You can save diagrams locally and export the images.
If you have an IBM S/360 mainframe and use Cobol, Autoflow is the best.
