I know I'll get flamed for seeking advice on LetsRun, but I really do respect the opinions of some posters, such as Flagpole, etc.
Anyway, I've been dating a wonderful woman for about 15 months or so now and we talk about marriage and children and the future and I truly would do anything in the world for this woman.
However, now that she is done school she is having some difficulty figuring out what to do with her life and she is talking about going overseas to teach English. At first she was talking a few months but now she is looking at a program that is 16 months long, and I just feel that this would kill the relationship.
I told her that I'm not really the best person to discuss this with because I can't get past my selfish bias of not wanting her to leave, so I told her to just make sure she does what is best for her and not worry about my selfish desires.
Some details: I am 33 years old and an attorney. She is 25 years old and works as a pharmacy technician and has been considering nursing or medical school, but now it appears she'll go the overseas teaching route.
So what are your thoughts? Am I being selfish? Is there anyway a relationship could survive with one person abroad for 16 months? If she wants to spend her life with me shouldn't she consider my feelings?
I just want to vent a little so I appreciate anyone reading this.
