Not sure I agree with Paul Hayward, perhaps if he'd said "London doesn't need another athletics stadium", he might be right, but he's wrong about the spectator numbers, so what else has he missed?

Crystal Palace's Aviva meet sold out both nights - I'm not sure how much of the auxiliary seating was used, but even if we say none, that's still 16,500 tickets per night. There's no reason to suppose that, if Crystal Palace IS shut down (which has been threatened), a 60,000 seat stadium wouldn't be of use.
I'm a Guardianista, but this article reminds me what is wrong with the paper: a rubbish opinion piece based on flawed (being generous, if I were feeling confrontational I'd say that Hayward is deliberately lying in order to provoke a reaction) information.
Brojos, it might be worth researching your "Quote of the Day" a little bit - especially when using it to sound the death-knell of European athletics.
