My roommate was pacing a workout for a few team mates a while ago in the mile. He was supposed to run 64 per lap and finish hard for himself the last 200m.
However, from the start nobody was able to follow him and he quickly had a 10-15m lead that grew throughout the race. His opinion was that he did a great job as he finished in 4.14, but the second guy did not finish until 4.21 or so.
My opinion is that a good pace maker adjusts the pace as he/she makes sure that people are following. His opinion is that a good pace maker just sticks to the pace, no matter what.
What do you think and why? I'm really curious!
