NJ's Megan Venables Commits to Villanova

Who else is going to Villanova?

nova has amanda borroughs (saratoga) and courtney chapman (fayetteville manlius)...not huge names but solid runners that have a ton of experience running for elite programs. With the exception of this year chapman has been one of the best individual xc runners in NY (had a little bit of an off year this year due to illness)

What I noticed about NCAA Cross Country last fall is that with the possible exception of the Oklahoma State men (and maybe one or two teams I didn't notice), almost no school has a very good sixth man or woman. I guess limitations on scholarships basically mean "no depth." It really is most often the case that if just one person has a disastrous race, that's it.

Georgetown Women kicked ass and have tons of depth.

Also, more people do not go to Nova because Gina is an incredible coach but not the best recruiting coach she is thick skinned and tough to understand.

Maybe academics? It might be that some people want to go to an elite university (eg, Stanford, Duke, Georgetown or Princeton).

She is great at coaching running. She is bad at recruiting compared to other schools. She has a tough exterior and it is hard to tell if she should do a better job letting recruits know how badly she wants them. I bet Megan Venables wasn't her top 2-3 girls that she was getting. All she had left though..

That is surprising, because Gina Procaccio's interviews look very well done. I agree though that if she's not letting women know that she wants them to run for Villanova that she should do that.

I personally like Gina's low key approach.

Maybe she feels that she'd rather have women who want to run for her and Villanova, and would rather not have people who are wishy washy and would just as soon go just anywhere. If I was her I would feel the same way.

And if I was a young woman looking for a great college running program and personal develpment, I would sure as heck put Villanova at the top of the list.

Venables went 17:28 at Holmdel. I doubt there are 2-3 girls in the country who could've done that.

Venables was 5th in the country.

She is quite a good runner to do that.
