I have 3 semesters of undergrad left before I graduate and then I plan on going to grad school. However, I've recently been playing with the idea of taking a year off to travel the world more or less. One of my teammates is from Central Europe and kind of initiated the idea. I figure we could both work for 6 months or so and then hitchhike and travel around for a few months couch surfing and whatnot. He says he's done it before and everything worked out well, and I trust him. The idea is appealing to me because I think it's probably the only time in my life in the next 45 years or so that I'll be able to do something like it. Once grad school starts, it's not like I can do anything like that, nor can I once I start a career. I don't really look at it as a vacation; more of a life experience that I will remember the rest of my life.
Anyone ever done something like this? Was it worth it? How'd you go about it and how much does it cost?
