I just got diagnosed with peroneal tendonitis.....
I was wondering if anybody has had this before, and how long did it take to heal. etc.
they placed me in a walking boot and said it would be a while
anybody thoughts?

I developed it 3 weeks before I ran the Amsterdam Marathon. With icing, massage, and ibuprofen, I was able to keep it from worsening (tapering my mileage helped) and I was able to run the marathon. I took a week off after the race and it lingered a little but by 3 weeks after the marathon, when I was running easy (40 miles a week, no speed, tempo, etc.) it finally went away. If you are in a boot it must be pretty bad. How much pain do you have running? Unless you have a big race coming up soon, get back to 100% before resuming training. I took a risk because I was so close to Amsterdam and it worked out okay.
I have a decent amount of pain for the first mile, then the pain kind of dulls out. but i notice my mechanics change some too, i am a forefoot runner and since this injury i have been more midfoot. i have hAD the pain for 3 weeks now, i took a couple days off when i first got it, then run again, hurt again, took a week off, then ran again, hen hurt again and now im in a boot... i feel as though its not getting worse so i want to run through it but they say it won't heal if i do...
Grimey,
Dont push it. I did and trained through it. You will develop chrnic tendonitis. I had to get surgery to correct the subluxation of my tendon. I healed well but had to get surgery and was out for months. but retrospecitvely it would have been way wiser to take 2-3 weeks off and let it heal.
I found that using an anti-inflammatory cream, such as Voltaren, to be helpful.
i've had it for years, still won't go away no matter how much time i take off. could that be subluxation?
yes. constant irritation from the tendon rubbing aginst the lateral malleolus.
Get an MRI to evaluate for partial rupture vs just inflammation (tenosynovitis). Obviously with a partial rupture the prognosis is poorer and you're more of a surgical candidate.
If its just inflammation, about 4 weeks in the boot should do the trick.
I went in to get XRays... they said I tweaked my tendon (didn't name it) and just labeled me as an ankle sprain. I was already in a boot that I had from when I tore my Achilles Tendon because I had waited to go to the Dr until it hurt so bad I couldn't even stand on it. They told me to do a couple more days in the boot.
I haven't run in two weeks, but it still hurts occasionally when walking, especially if I am on a softer surface (I coach gymnastics and am constantly on mats, etc). Should I go back and demand MRI's of my foot?
