She was running 6 mi tempos at 5:35 in December. She will be fit. And child birth is a form of natural blood doping.
Drops out after 9 miles...

1:10:12 1st

This, unless there is a reasonably fast guy that pushes her a little faster.
Looks like there will be:

Kara needs to make this worthwhile...
Back in the street racing days (drag racing on Woodward) there was a local gal who drove some quick Vettes and Camaros (her daddy worked for GM) and she would put a sticker on the back that said: Beat Me...Eat Me!
Last year there were zero elites, excepting goucher on either side. Unless they have changed their recruiting plan (get Kara, end) none of those will be there.
I plan to run about 1:10-1:12 on January 16th. But not in Arizona, rather Naples, FL. Too bad, it would be fun to run with Kara (and hopefully, beat her, not because she's a girl, but just 'cause!)
With the USATF Half Marathon Championship race a couple weeks later, there aren't going to be any other top Americans and there's not enough money to attract top internationals. Kara's not going to do much more than a goal marathon pace workout at this stage of her comeback/training so around 1:11:xx would be good enough.
If you are running 1:10 to 1:12 at Naples you may be able to run with Desi Davila as she will probably be running in that time range.

I haven't heard of any other elites running on Sunday. Dismissing the possibility of a dark horse coming out of the crowd, unless Kara has a total break down (>1:14), she should easily top the podium. My bet is she'll have some company by an ambitious runner or two for the first half of race before they fall to the wayside as Kara dominates the second half. I can't imagine her finishing off the podium unless she DNF's.
So it looks like Fraioli had the last laugh. What was Kara's time?
