Having to endure running the past two days alone has made me really wish for some training partners. I just moved here in the fall. My schedule hasn’t allowed me the chance to check out some of the group runs in the area yet, but from my experience in other cities, I am typically caught between that awkward spot of not being good enough to meet the standards of the faster clubs in the area, but also being too fast for the more socially oriented group runs.
Right now I am focusing on longer distances, but I am sure the group could be open to anyone else training for races 5k and up. I do my easy runs around 7:00-7:30 pace, and tempos right around 5:50-6:00 pace. I think ideally the group would be made up of guys who run 15:30-17:30 in the 5k, 73:00-77:00 in the half, and 2:30s and 2:40s in the marathon. Perhaps, if this thing really takes off we can expand to encompass more pace groups, but that’s what would probably work best for me personally.
I am open to making this as low key or as serious as others want it to be. That could mean just meeting a few times a week for some easy runs and on the weekends for long runs. If people are training for similar races at similar times, we can maybe get in some tempos and workouts together as well. I’d also be open to making this more of a club team, with a club name and singlets and what not. I think that would be pretty cool for some of us trying to relive the glory days of hs and college running.
I live in south Denver (by DU), so it is most convenient for me to have us meet, at least on weekdays, around this area (ie: Washington park, highline canal, etc). But I’d be open to exploring other options on the weekends.
Is anyone else out there at all interested or does a similar group already exist? Feel free to respond to this post or email me.
