I'm thinking about doing the Nashville Half Marathon this spring. I'm not from the area so I would have to fly in and stay at a hotel.
Can someone tell me a little about the half marathon/marathon and whether it's a good one to race.

I'm assuming that you're referring to the Country Music 1/2 Marathon in April (we have a couple others around here). Decent course with rolling hills over the first 7 miles and one more around mile 12. Very crowded, but no problem if you're in the first wave (< 1:30). The temperature varies from 50s to 80s depending on the year, with the possibility of rain/humidity. The start and finish are a few miles apart, with no transportation back to the start, so keep that in mind on race morning.
There were tornados in the area in '10. Course closed after 13 miles
A Rock N' Roll race??? I couldn't dream of ever doing one..

Or you could be like me, park at the stadium and take the bus over to the start line which is free (you finish at the stadium which is where you park for the bus). It depends on what sort of race you are looking for as to whether or not its a good one. Course isn't bad but it can be pretty warm (see 09 year). As far as the race goes its mostly a half marathon with a full attached. The first half is generally pretty cool with lots of bands and tons of people. Once the half marathoners split off they will send you to this business park area that is not really asthetically pleasing and the fan support out there is poor since 85% of people are running the half. The course isnt that tough though people like to tell you it is. It is a BIG race however and not an overly competitive one in the half. I was 8th in the full but would have probably been 3rd or 4th with my halfway split) so I would assume being over the 1:30 corral would be pretty congested. One of the perks is that it's a Saturday race so can go out afterwards and enjoy the Nashville night life (which is a GREAT medium-large sized city, one of the best in the US and I've been to every state except Washinton).
Please come and have fun, but that race is a jog a thon. typical rocknroll series junk... typically it's pretty warm in tn by late april. but please visit our great city

Why do you say this? Because of the amount of people the run the race? Would you consider doing it if you were going to run between 1:20-1:25? I understand a lot of Half Marathon's that are this large are not good for the majority of people, but are they even bad if you're going to be in the first wave and near the top of the finisher.
