Hi all,
I'm currently completing my final year of high school (outside of the US). I'm a middle distance runner interested in enrolling at a Division 1 US university which combines great athletics and stellar academics (Stanford being the obvious example and university to which I am most drawn). I'm aware that admission to such universities is very tough, and was wondering about how useful my running will be.
My question is this:
If a potential recruit is decent (lets say a 4:15 mile) yet not quite in the elite, top tier range of high schoolers (lets say a sub 4:10 mile), will admission still be easier? Or is preferential admission reserved for those athletes whom the coaches are extremely keen to secure, and consequently the 4:15 runner will be seen as an ordinary applicant in the eyes of the admissions department?
Sorry for the long winded post, please reply with any thoughts/help.
Cheers
