It didn't dawn on me until last night when I was cleaning up some stuff from my desk and I ran across a welcome packet I received a while back from Southern Poverty Law Center after I had joined their org. In the packet is a map of hate groups and in one of the sidebars, there is an area discussing different hate groups.My mouth fell open when I looked at it THIS time. Right there, in the section on white nationalis¬ts was the 'gun sight'. It's the logo for Stormfront¬!
I'd never seen this logo before I saw it on the SPLC map. I did a quick search at
¬ges.google¬.com/ on the terms 'white nationalis¬t' and found out the 'gun sight' is the logo for Stormfront¬, a white supremacis¬t site and forum. Look for yourself. Search Google images on the terms 'stormfron¬t logo'. Wow...

The Israeli government today moved forward with the demolition of a large part of an historic hotel in occupied East Jerusalem, which will eventually be the site of some 20 new settlement units. The move sparked international criticism.
The planned demolition of the Shepherd Hotel has been coming for quite some time. The Israeli government took it over in 1967 and it was sold to an American settlement enthusiast in 1985, who announced his intentions in 2007. International criticism had led Israeli officials to revise the plan from 133 to 20 units, and to insist that the hotel itself would remain untouched.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton condemned the move as a “disturbing development,” and added that it would do serious damage to the goal of a two-state solution. The peace process, as with the hotel, has fallen on hard times recently, however, and its destruction surprises few who were paying close attention.
Settlers praised the move as a chance to cement Jewish control over East Jerusalem in general, and the Arab neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in particular.
The European Union, which also criticized the move, has also released a new report harshly condemning Israel’s Jerusalem policy, which maintains that even the occupied portions of the city seized militarily in 1967 are “eternally” part of Israel, and suggests that the EU treat East Jerusalem as the capital city of the would-be nation of Palestine.

To try to equate the irresponsible blather of unorganized individual left wing bloggers with that of mainstream right-wing media stars is preposterous. One side has a tiny scattered audience with no support or influence on party while the other enjoys enormous popularity and influence on it's party. Her examples of progressive hate campaigns peter out to mug shots of bozos caught tearing down Bush/Cheney yard signs. Weak, weak effort on the part of Malkin Corp.

nyet - I actually found Malkin's detailed recitation of facts persuasive, even though I typically do not find her thoughtful. What really bothers me is the racism of the extreme left - no - not because I am sensitive or morally sanctimonious - rather it is because this kind of conduct does not lead to any form of success, and the groups engaging in the racist conduct could very much use a dose of success. It is a shame for people to engage in conduct that will not work out for them.
Both sides must accept that they have their extremists, and work to respect the rule of law and protect the notion of vigorous, but reasonable discourse.
I find Malkin's post, however, as opportunist as others (Krugman especially) who are trying to politicize this awful event.
What is now clear is that the defendant was mentally disturbed (likely not capable of following any political them other than that borne from irrational paranoia). Given this is the case, I am surprised at the lack of discipline on the left - it strikes me that they would at least be consistent and argue for better mental health programs. I would be shocked if one of the conclusions drawn from this incident is not that a better or more invasive intervention might have saved him. Evidence abounds of this guy's profound sense of disturbance - and at age, too, where full blown schizophrenia often manifests itsefl.
