I was also in Disney for the marathon over the weekend. I had an opportunity to talk with Galloway.
I personally asked him, "At what point do you draw the line with the run/walk method?"... He talked about what has been posted, " A guy who ran around 2:28-29 incorporating the 15 second walk breaks per mile."
I also asked, "what would you recommend the Olympian Marathoners running sub 2:10 do?"... His response: "I would never expect Olympic marathoners to actually incorporate walking breaks during the race and at that level, running at that fast of a pace, I would not advise them to. However, I think it would be beneficial if they would stop and walk for a few seconds at the water breaks."
As for Galloway himself, he is an extremely nice man and very approachable. He had a long line of people wanting to meet him and he took time for each and every one of them. I took a picture with him and got his autograph. Although I do not use his run/walk method, I really respect Galloway, after all, he is a former Olympian, former American Record Holder, and ran with greats like Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers, and Prefontaine.
