I would like to know what death penalty opponents have to say about his loon that killed 6 yesterday. From what I understand he's going to be eligible for it, so are you for it?

It's more expensive than to lock him away for life. Why waste tax money on his injection?
Yeah, because if we give him the death penalty, then he will really learn his lesson. Or better yet, all deranged lunatics will think twice in the future.
How the heck is the death penalty more expensive than life in prison?

Only because bleeding heart bastards have made the process so time consuming. For real justice to have taken place, he should have been executed by sundown last night.

The death penalty is completely ineffective as a deterrent.
I agree you doofus, thats the point I was trying to make, wow!!
This is probably why it's such a lengthy legal process:

That couldn't be more irrelevant to the discussion. The question is whether or not the guy should get the death penalty. The decision has to be made under the existing circumstances. Why things are the way that they are has nothing to do with whether or not this guy should get the death penalty.
I say let the guy live in prison. A nutcase like that probably suffers from his own demons every minute of every day. More of a punishment to let him live his psychotic existence.
So it looks like there is a strong chance he could avoid the death penalty by pleading insanity. I never really understood that...it seems to me that anyone who starts spraying bullets into an innocent crowd is insane by definition. So shouldn't we either be either not giving the death penalty to anyone, because anyone who qualifies is insane or giving it to no one because, well, anyone who qualifies is clearly insane.
He wont be elligible. His trial is already tainted, everyone calling him a mentally disturbed individual. He'll clearly plead not guilty by reason of insanity and be confined to a mental facility for the rest of his life with a warm bed, hot food, plenty of drugs, cable TV, internet access, workout room, etc. It's called progression and compassion. The cornerstone of the liberal mentality.

He clearly is guilty. Execute him now with a gunshot to the head.

Tell that to the families of the victims.

This is actually preferable for a few reasons. Most importantly, it might allow us to study and understand him more, so we can prevent things like this from happening in the future. Also, hell, maybe he is really insane, and if he could get the right treatment, he could get healthy. Then you've saved a life instead of adding to the list of destroyed lives.
I know that doesn't do much for you eye-for-an-eye people that get erections over executions, but I never really understood the satisfaction or advantages in revenge. But then again, I usually try to use reason instead of emotion.
KILL HIM!!!!
This guy killed a kid. Life in prison will be HELL for him.

First of all, even reactionary idiots like you generally find it unethical to murder someone who mentally disturbed. So what gives here?
Violence begets violence. Quit focusing on your lust for vengeance - and if you don't, then quit going to church or claiming to believe in Christianity, because you're not Christian.
What is more important to me is preventing this from ever happening again. And how do we do that? Oh, I don't know, MAYBE make it harder for the mentally deranged to get their hands on lethal weapons? Nah, that makes too much sense. Arm everyone! I'm afraid of my own shadow, so I'm going to make sure other people suffer for it!

Why would you say that? What kind of message does that send to our children? "No son, it's okay that Billy Boy stole your lunchbox. You'll be allowed to beat his teeth in with a baseball bat during second period tomorrow." or, "No son, you don't have to learn what forgiveness means. It's not a cornerstone of a rational, civilized society. It doesn't matter that Billy Boy is mentally deranged and didn't know what he was doing, you're still allowed to beat him until your blood-vengeance is satisfied."
A man is defined more by how he treats his enemies, not his friends. You do not fear, you always do the right thing. And here, the right thing is to make sure that someone who is mentally ill never is able to hold a gun.
I am just against killing people, no matter what the circumstance. If anyone deserved it, it would be this dickhead, but I don't think any of us should be killing anyone. Two wrongs don't make a right. An eye for an eye leaves us blind, and all that shit, right?
I am not a hippy or anyhting.
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
