Why play a bunch of pop BS for his birthday? Maybe play some of that but really, how about some good rock n roll? For instance, Kashmir or Ten Years Gone off of Physical Graffiti, or some selections off some other great 1975 albums. I guess what I'm saying is play some man-music for crying out loud, not stuff the wine n cheese crowd listened to! Here's some other ideas:

-the soundtrack to Dazed & Confused, set right about 1975 if I remember correctley.

-Toys in the Attic -Aerosmith

-Night at the Opera -Queen

-Fly by Night - Rush

-Young Americans -Bowie

-Wish You Were Here -Pink Floyd

Thanks for reminding me why I hated the 70's for music. The early '80's were like a salvation.

The OP mentioned these were on the charts the week the birthday child was born. That seems to be specific to the OPs request asking you to pick from the list. While you suggest some slick neat-0 tunes the idea of being on the charts that week is lost. You are free to throw your machoman-up party as you wish and should let the OP pick his theme for his party with out belittling his choice for his party. Maybe he doesn't like ArenaRock as much as you do.

Looks like the OPs picks from the list are mostly slow dance types, you know, the kind of music that promotes holding your partner close instead of dancing "at" them.
