he's always bangin on about greater muscle capilirization if you run bearfoot and that i could take 30-45sec off my my 8km xc time (its 27.33 FYI)
Im scared of getting splinters in my feet, would it help that much?

Which is it? Bearfoot, or barefoot? Big difference.
'Im scared of getting splinters in my feet'
As long as you don't run up a tree you will be fine
Im not a huge proponent or opponent of running bare foot but, if you really want to get in to bear foot running, buy some five fingers and try it out. The almost bare foot shoes will element splinter problems. Also don't start out running hard core as you normally would, build your legs up to it with shorter runs on softer surfaces like lose dirt or grass. Running bare foot is a whole different running experience it takes a while to get used to it.
Can anyone explain how you could possibly get greater muscle capillarization from it?

Blah, blah, blah. There is no science to barefoot running yet...so, blow off the times comments. It will make your lower limbs stronger, increase flexibility and help reduce stress on the legs from shoes/hard surfaces. If nothing else, just do strides each day. The LSU XC team does that...daily strides after their run and since they are so good...oh, wait, on second thought...you might want to keep your shoes on.
I suggest you paws and take a monent to think about running bearfoot.

He could always bare his sole to the process.
There is a risk for mechanical injury to your feet. Add 3-5 more minutes to your runs each day and it will make you better than running barefoot doing strides. If your coach told you to drop a brick on your foot everyday after practice would you? Sit down and explain your concern and move on.
Is that you Grizzly?
Tell him you'll run barefooted as soon as he can name one CURRENT halfway decent barefoot runner. And please dont tell me about Bikila, that was a half century ago at a much slower speed than today's elites.
