Why am I paying more for health care now? Didn't they pass something last year that was supposed to save my family some money? I don't pay attention to politics much so maybe I am wrong. Anyone know the deal?

Did I get it backwards? Bummer.
You get paid for fisting? Damn, that's an odd gig.
You can suck on the public teat as long as you fill the public teat... it's that conservation of matter in physics kinda thing.

laughing with you and thanks for the no help. *first
You are paying more because you (generic you of surveys of people with employer based health care) didn't want health care reform. The bill does pretty much nothing for employer based health care intentionally. Not to mention most of the bill doesn't take effect until next year.Single payer would have cut your health care bill by 1/3. But thank god we didn't go down that socialist (for some definition of socialist) route

Okay so I did have it backwards. So for me because I work for a company I should expect my health care cost to go up even more next year? Sorry is that what you are saying?
My health insurance premium (that I pay) went down ~100/month for 2011.
hmmm Perhaps it is just my company and independent of the health care stuff. Is that the case?

Yep. Health care premiums have gone up 5-10% every year for the past 20 years or so. I sort of doubt that 2011 will be any different.

So then what was all the talk about? Did the health care thing do anything?
It will provide insurance (in 2012 I believe) pools for people that don't have access to employer based health care along with a few tweaks (some benefits for seniors along with reducing medicare advantage waste, kids on parents plans until like 26). Those pools might be more efficient but we will have to wait an see.

Only suckers get private insurance these days. Let the government pay for your health issues...
Cool. So all those guys at my work that told me it was the end of times because of what the government was doing with health care were over reacting?
Just took a new job, my family health insurance will almost cut in half, from 570/month to 275/month.
Have done a line by line comparison of benefits, co-pays for office visits and drugs almost identical ($15 office, $10 generics, $100 ER). They are the two big insurers in my area, both are PPOs.
For you, like most people there really is no change. That was just alot of rhetoric to get everyone upset and pissed off that the democrats were proposing some changes. What you pay on your corporate plan, depends on what your empolyer wants you to pay. Employers of a certain size were only required to "offer" insurance. Since you already were in a plan, and your employer had some policy regarding employee payments, you are probably stuck with increased costs.
The main things the compromised health care bill brought about were,
1)Health Insurers cannot deny children health insurance because of pre-existing conditions. A ban on the discrimination in adults will take effect in 2014.
2)Businesses with fewer than 50 employees will get tax credits covering up to 50% of employee premiums.
3)Seniors will get a rebate to fill the so-called "donut hole" in Medicare drug coverage, which severely limits prescription medication coverage expenditures over $2,700. As of next year, 50 percent of the donut hole will be filled.
4)The cut-off age for young adults to continue to be covered by their parents' health insurance rises to the age 27.
5)Lifetime caps on the amount of insurance an individual can have will be banned. Annual caps will be limited, and banned in 2014.
6)A temporary high-risk pool will be set up to cover adults with pre-existing conditions. Health care exchanges will eliminate the program in 2014.
7)New plans must cover checkups and other preventative care without co-pays. All plans will be affected by 2018
8)Insurance companies can no longer cut someone when he or she gets sick.
9)Insurers must now reveal how much money is spent on overhead
10)Insurers must now reveal how much money is spent on overhead
11)This tax will impose a ten percent tax on indoor tanning services. This tax, which replaced the proposed tax on cosmetic surgery, would be effective for services on or after July 1, 2010.
12)New screening procedures will be implemented to help eliminate health insurance fraud and waste.
13)Medicare payment protections will be extended to small rural hospitals and other health care facilities that have a small number of Medicare patients.
14)Non-profit Blue Cross organizations will be required to maintain a medical loss ratio -- money spent on procedures over money incoming -- of 85 percent or higher to take advantage of IRS tax benefits.
15)Chain restaurants will be required to provide a "nutrient content disclosure statement" alongside their items. Expect to see calories listed both on in-store and drive-through menus of fast-food restaurants sometime soon.
16)The bill establishes a temporary program for companies that provide early retiree health benefits for those ages 55‐64 in order to help reduce the often-expensive cost of that coverage.
17)The Secretary of Health and Human Services will set up a new Web site to make it easy for Americans in any state to seek out affordable health insurance options The site will also include helpful information for small businesses.
18)A two‐year temporary credit (up to a maximum of $1 billion) is in the bill to encourage investment in new therapies for the prevention and treatement of diseases.
Sorry, that is about it. No death squads, no government takeover. By the way, repealing the provisions will cost billions over the next few years. Good thing some of you elected that tea party group, they can get rid of all these bad things I have listed.
I pay $78 a week (family of 4 kids & a wife) but I have a $6000 deductible, so I am paying for all my prescriptions and anything that is not considered preventative, so if I have to take my kids to the doctor because they are sick I will get over a $100 bill from the doctor, doctor will bill the insurance compnay who then tells the doctor how much they are going to pay and then in turn the doctor will turn around and bill me what is not paid by the insurance company. God bless Obama and his health plan.
That probably means your employer is paying more of the cost. As a single guy I used to pay 0/month for health insurance as my company covered employees 100%. The company was paying like 600/month though.

Thanks for reminding me about that health insurance stuff. I may get some for myself in the next couple years. I'm 46 and haven't had health insurance in at least 18 years. I just hope they don't put me in the "runners" pool where everybody goes to all sorts of doctors and specialists wasting money and resources just because they overdid it while training or racing.

Ditto, thanks to Obama our family now has a $2,000 debuctible per member for 2011 before insurance picks up anything, whereas there was 0 (zero) debuctible before Obamacare. Plus we are paying higher premiums for this greatly reduced coverage, oh yeah and our insurance comes from being RN nursing at a group of hospital, so if this is happening to us, it must be much worse nationwide. And yet hospitals are still closing because illegals get free healthcare. The good news is that spouse will be moving to the VA system, becoming a federal employee, with all the sweet benefits that entails, before we rack up a huge bill that the private American citizens are going to be bankrupted under.
