This happened to me in college - long time ago. Tough workout, came back and was bleeding.
It ended up being nothing - a blood vessel had burst probably. But, the doctor took it very seriously, as evidently that sort of bleeding can be symptomatic of some really scary stuff. They did a colonoscopy on me within a day, and luckily nothing was wrong.
I'd get to a doctor with that. Might be something as simple as hemmorhoids or something really serious.
Do you have any other unusual symptons related to your bowel movements? Regardless, if you've been bleeding out of your arse for a month go to the doctor! It's probably nothing, but you damn well better find out!

Is the blood bright red or dark red? It will vary depending on the original source of the blood and may make a difference in the level of fear you should feel.
Go see a doctor.

Well get in and dig around the bowl I need to know what shade of red in order to get you the right size plug.
I'm a GI doc. Could be something as simple as a hemorrhoid, which is the most likely cause if you are young. Still, there is always the concern about colitis, polyps or cancer (although very uncommon in younger individuals, but I don't know your age). Go see a local gastroenterologist. Can give you medications for hemorrhoids, but should set you up for a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy.

Same thing happened to me! Bright red blood every time I went to take a dump. Freaked me out a little bit but I ignored it and now it's stopped...I'm back in brown town baby!
Bright red is no real problem. Just means you're bleeding a little close to the exit point.
Darker means the problem is deeper.

You may have eaten a an entire meal of beets without realizing it. I had some beet salad over the holidays and that first dump scared the shit out of me. I filled the bowl red! For a week later there was always a trace of red.
By now I've worked it out of my system.
