I don't think you have the necessary insight into the American Military structure to say that. I still think we measure a large enough lead on the rest of the world in the military sector to swat down any attack launched against main land America. America does seem much more like a defensive power than I have it historically contextualized in my mind, but that might simply be a product of the times, and the fact that the Iraq war has made America appear somewhat offensively impotent, perhaps not as a result of American incompetence.

I think we have the necessary technology to be able to defend our country indefinitely. I think that if China were to launch an attack on the United States, the retaliation would be swift and brutal.

If the reason Japan didn't invade America is because they were afraid of the CIVILIAN response, and thought they would be doomed by rednecks with guns, they were incredibly stupid. The gap between what the military is capable of doing and what the citizenry of a country are able to do in a war opened up a bit with the advent of nuclear devices. 4000 Nuclear bombs launched at china should end any war pretty quickly.

Uhh, no. Japan did not invade mainland America during WWII because they had absolutely no capability to project sufficient power at such a distance. If America did not have a single household weapon at the time the course of action of both countries would have been exactly the same. That is, Japan ends up getting its ass handed to her without ever remotely approaching the US mainland.

Terrorists detonate a dirty, Iranian-produced dirty nuke on Wall Street.

US, tired of all the terrorism throughout the years, decides to finally teach Islam a lesson. They nuke Mecca, Medina, and strategic points within Iran and Pakistan, decimating the nuclear capabilities and armed forces of both.

India rolls into Kashmir and proceeds to take Pakistan.

The Middle East erupts against Israel, which proceeds to go "Old Testament" against the agressors, fighting and occupying neighbors where needed.

From Iraq, the US invades and takes over Iran, ousting the Shite regime once and for all.

In exchange for staying out of the way, China and Russia are offered sweetheart deals on all the oil seized by the West.

The logistics of war have changed since the 1940's - as technology has developed (re: computers and other communication techs, not to mention better nuclear bombs, etc.)- and the attitudes of the general public (as dim as many are) makes such liklhood VERY difficult. It's one thing to have pseudo-wars in Kuwait, Afganistan, Iraq or other "3rd world" countries (generally about Islam and oil) as places that "1st world countries" really care little about - no personal identity with them, and quite another to involve "1st world nations" against each other who are so economically entwined as exists today in a global economy.

You're right. Other countries are certainly more afraid of high US gun ownership than they are of the US nuking them to obliteration in a counter-attack.

If there's another world war everyone will be screwed. If you think the bombing in WWII was bad, wait til you see what happens with modern technology.

Asia freed itself from White Racism in the 70s marked my the US defeat by Vietnam. US abandended 10,000 soldiers in battle to be raped and mutilated by liberation heros. US has lost Iraq, Afhgan, Palestine, Pakistan already and would need to draft 10,000,000 soldiers to win those wars. US is broke with homeless and starving on the streets everywhere. US people are not interested in imperialism and zionism any longer.

I don't think there would be any possible scenario where America would not be screwed if WWIII happened. Therefore, our best option is to prevent that from ever happening and Obama is doing an admirable job at that.
