Background: Female, 20, ran 2 years at my D2 program before it got axed... have been doing 50-60 mpw the last few months but I have experience with running up to 70-75 mpw.
The story is that I am trying to get onto a local racing team, not an amazing team but not that bad either. They require that you must run 8:40 for 1.5 miles (yea I know weird distance) before February (sooner the better) because that's their window before the racing starts.
Anyway the last 2-3 weeks I started doing the occasional workout besides mileage, strides, and tempos and did a hill workout and 1-2 track workouts but nothing special. I took a crack at trying to race the distance to see where I was at and fell off pace after 3 laps and stopped at 5 laps to get 7:39.
I've been doing 3-4 doubles a week and I've heard they get you into shape fast. So I'm planning to do 5-6 doubles a week which will probably make my mileage closer to 70. Lately (as in the last month) I feel like I feel inconsistent on days, some days I'll feel great and then the next day or day after I'll feel horrible and I've had to occasionally modify or can a workout because of that.
So any suggestions Letsrun faithful? Is this even possible for me? This local racing team is my main shot at continuing to compete, get into certain races, and chase the dream... I'll post updates of my training over the next weeks here, and update if I make it.
