I am thinking about trying to take first year French this summer, after I graduate from high school. If I do it, I'd like to be at a school that has access to running trails and is preferably at altitude and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I was hoping for NAU but they don't offer first year French over summer session.
Any other suggestions?
(I grew up speaking Spanish at home and want to maybe learn something new. My high school only had Spanish through second year, nothing else.)

Go to Morocco. You will learn french and you can live and train at altitude. It will not cost you your arms.

Yea, that's probably what I'll have to end up doing. I was sort of hoping to get college credit by actually taking classes plus I'm not sure I could really learn it on my own. But that might be my only option.
I've actually been to Morocco, just for a couple of days. We were besieged by little kids tugging at us trying to get us to buy stuff we didn't want like used soccer jersys that were a couple of sizes too small. I'd thought I was going to like it but it was depressing.
Learning french is a waste of your efforts since Europe's 2nd language is english. If you are going to major in the sciences learn Japanese. If you are going to major in business learn Chinese and Arabic.

Well, if you are able to learn it on your own, I think you'll be allowed to test out of the class once your enter college. Thus saving money and time.

Good points but I'm not very practical - maybe that's why I run? - I like stuff like history and art and literature. And I got the chance to spend a week in Paris and loved the museums. It's true you can just speak English but it's not very cool to do that. And I just like the way French sounds. I can sort of read it already, a little anyway, I guess from knowing Spanish, so I don't think it would be too tough.
Maybe Univ of Colo or UNM? Anyone know if they have running near campus if I was in a dorm?
