It is not that warm at Oxy, except for mid/late summer and through the middle of the fall. Winter, spring, and early summer are cool/mild.

You should definitely email the coach, Rob Bartlett. He is an extremely nice guy and will get back to you right away.
Agreed, Rob is a great guy and great coach.
From what I hear (many ties), the team has quite a bit of fun.
I run for Claremont, who is in their conference and have raced them a bunch, and was recruited by Oxy as well.
The coach is a nice guy, and they have a good history of individual athletes and were a conference power house a few years back.
They have a low mileage program, but from the oxy guys I know it seem like high intensity.
It is ridiculously hot down there for the first month or so, but after that its super nice the rest of the year, and juuuuuust starts getting too hot by the time track ends.
Hey, I'm a runner at Oxy currently. As someone said above, you should definitely shoot Rob an e-mail (rbartlett@oxy.edu)and fill out a recruit form on the T&F website.
It's most definitely warmer here than IL; it was about 65 this afternoon, although it's been raining a lot. The college is terrific. Most people are laid back but very motivated. In 2 1/2 years I've only had one professor who wasn't good. If you're planning on studying in the sciences there're a lot of opportunities to do research (with pay, no less).
The team is a chill bunch of guys. Everyone's close and we do have a lot of fun. Rob's a great coach and I've really enjoyed running for him. He's young(ish), but he knows what he's doing. Overall Oxy's been great; both the team and the classes.
If you've got other questions feel free to e-mail me at
pretty much echo the above...my favorite place to train in LA...good coach, good guys, beautiful campus. close to rose bowl, close to arroyo trail, close to jpl (20+ miles of trails), great home meets, close to mt sac, 325+ sunny days/yr, etc, etc, etc....
if you have a choice, it's pretty much made if oxy is on your radar, esp if you're not making a DI program. phenomenal academics, great academic facilities. new 1.5mil gym.
personally, i'd rather have 90* than -12*
cheers, dude-
Thanks for all the information everybody! I sent my information to the coach this morning/afternoon
