I'm a 17 year old runner doing primarily 800m and 1500m on the track, not a fan of xc only doing it to keep fit. Best times of 1.57 and 4.01, ran them in August last year. Missed alot of training last year through injury and studying so should have been around 1.55 and 3.55. Anyway; I've never actually done proper winter training before i.e bigger mileage or strength work so decided with my coach that this winter I would train "properly". Been doing 40-50 mpw since october (usual winter mileage usually peaked at 30). In february I would like to start some basic weight training. I have a fairly strong core but would like to begin proper leg/core strengthening work now. Any advice on exercies I could do in the gym would be appreciated as I am a total beginner when it comes to this. I'd just like to add that when I start strength training I am going to drop my mileage a bit to compensate.
