Um, well, I think most readers of this forum would agree that Mr. Wheating has the best and worst job in the world. The best because he is doing what he enjoys most in the world; getting paid to train and compete at the highest levels. The worst because there is no pension plan; medical insurance; days off; workman's comp; etc. Plus there are no guarantees that it will last longer than the next race (contracts excepted). Having said all that perhaps the cliche that suits the notion is that "you only get one shot". I personally hope he makes the most of it and earns enough to not have to worry about the downside. In either case, I will enjoy watching him perform and develop. He's certainly started off ok wouldn't you say?
This world isn't big enough for two Cameron Frye's.
I would imagine a contracted athlete is paying into a 401k, and his contract negates the need for workers comp, as long as the injury doesn't go on for too too long i'd imagine. not sure about a pension, but i'm pretty certain that most of these guys are smart enough to plan at least a 401k for the time that they are employed by nike.
In all reality i'm pretty sure wheating is pretty smart, he went to a private school, his family has money, I'm sure he's managing the funds he is recieving from Nike quite well.
What I would be more interested in is finding out how much he's making from nike.
