Tyson Invite: Gone
Millrose Games: Anything other than wanamaker mile?
Boston Indoor Games: Even happening in 2011?
USATF Nat'l Champs: elites don't even attend which i'll blame USATF in general for.
NCAA National Championships are getting exposure at new event locales (Texas, Boise). The sport as a whole is limited to parts of the country, but can be a great spectator atmosphere. Other than Hayward Field, indoor track is probably a better product for casual fans than anything else. So why is it dying a slow death professionally. A product of lack of sponsorship during great recession? Lack of venues specifically designed for the fan, not just the runner? Image what we could produce if track and field thought like the NFL and built a venue for the fans in addition to the players. A 200m track is not just about the runners, but the logistics and view points as well, and doesn't take a lot of money to make small changes to make it better.
