How cool would this be? The US would easily be competitive against east African countries.

You do realize that no one actually runs the DMR outside the US?

Judging from past results, same goes for the 4x400.
we would NOT be competitive against Kenya, even if we both stacked our teams...
USA:
1200- Wheating/Webb/Manzano
400- Wariner
800- Symmonds
1600- Lagat/Wheating/Webb/Manzano
Kenya:
1200- Kiprop
400- ??
800- Rudisha
1600- Kiplagat
Doesn't even matter who Kenya runs at 400...an Olympic gold medalist 1500 runner w/ a 1:43.18 800 PR, a 1:41.01 800 runner, and a 3:29 1500 guy are NOT losing a DMR
Plus, with Lagat moving up and Manzano more of a kicker/racer, the US needs a 3:30 webb, which is iffy, obviously. With Webb in 3:30 shape and Wheating improving, there is a definite chance...but even so, I think Rudisha is wayyyyy too good
At the indoor WC in Toronto in 93, they had a Sprint Med exhibition and if was off the hook. We won with the following line up:
Kevin Little
James Trapp
Butch Reynolds
Mark Everett
but as I recall, it was a close race.
The 400 WOULD matter, we've got a guy who could split 43 low, does Kenya have anyone who could split sub 45? I doubt it. How about sub 46? If not, you are going to be giving up a ton on that leg and that is the leg where you really don't need to draft, they are used to running solo all out. No way does Rudisha run a 1:41 from the front solo, it will play pretty much like every DMR in history, be close and come down to the 1600. If we get Webb back to top shape or have Lagat ripping it I wouldn't count the US out no matter how good Kenya's guys individual PRs are.

It would be great to see a distance-oriented relay in major meets (whether it be DMR or 4x8 but I guess the 800 is now becoming more and more of a sprint, no?)
No DMR. Dist races are too bring for fans. Plus the DMR has been used a filler races for collegen, youth, kiddie meets.
The shuttle relays is more exciting in the Oly/WC.
What about a 50M dash in the Oly/WC like they have at winter all-comers meets.
I think that kenyan guy could split 44.50
