Why not just make AFC and NFC and throw divisions out the window.

No, it really, really wont. The owners dont really care that much. They like the idea of the division champ being protected. Several have been asked about it coming up in winter meetings and they have basically said they dont care.
Besides, having a crappy record doesnt mean a ton sometimes. The 8-8 Chargers winning their division two years ago then knocking off the 12-4 Colts who were tied for the second best record in football. (And the 11-5 Pats had to sit at home). And that same season Cardinals won their division with a 9-7 record, then marched to the Superbowl and were an incomplete pass away from winning, despite having the worst record in the NFC.

Yeah this year this first round playoff system is displaying it's broke.
Every host team has a worse record than the team they're hosting, except the Eagles who have the same record as the Packers, but also lost to them earlier this year.

The NFC West just looks pathetic and funny because of parody.
*&^%ing Seahawks cost me almost $50 in my Survivor football pool. I was suckered in by the Rams. Like the Lions, I'll have to consider not finishing in the top a victory.

All pathetic records aren't the same. The Chargers had a crappy start that year and were rolling going into the play-offs. The Seahawks have been pathetic all year. Their sole victory over a winning team was beating the Bears early in the season. Saying that though, the Saints haven't won an away play-off game in the franchise's history. Let's see how it plays out.

Actually they will be hosting the 11-5 defending Super Bowl Champions who would still have traveled to Seattle had they been 12-4.
I don't know about re-aligning the divisions.
The Cardinals were in the Supebowl two years ago.
The Seahawks were in the Superbowl five years ago.
The Rams were in the Superbowl twice in the last 11 years And the 49ers have won the Supebowl five times.
If the Falcons or Packers make it to the Superbowl then the NFC will have sent 10 different teams to the Superbowl in the last 10 years.
The top two playoff teams in each conference are highly rewarded and the remaining four get a chance but it is not always equitable.
Win your division.
