Ive noticed that a lot of runners who are new to the sport and have been swimmers in the past tend to run lightening fast times almost right off the bat. While I am not advocating that solely swimming is the best way to run fast, I think it may be a key addition to training programs already set in place to increase aerobic strength. The increase in lung capacity and oxygen management seems extremely beneficial to running events of 800m and over. There is no impact, lots of aerobic work, increased core strength, and a mental rest from pounding miles.
Possibly the most overlooked training tool of modern running? Could this possibly be the key to Lukas Verzbicas blistering success? Thoughts please.
