So I'm a 17 year old junior in high school. PR's are 2:08 800, 4:25 1500, 9:48 3k, and 16:14 5k xc. Not sure if that will be relevant at all.
So for us, indoor season started at the beginning of December. I never really got to get a good base in because we had state's for cross country and my leg was bothering me a little bit from an injury I obtained from biking. We basically just jumped into doing workouts while running probably 35 mpw (which is relatively low for me, I like to get in a base of high 50's and hold low 50's for the season). But I feel like I'm doing these workouts really hard. I feel like crap during them. I feel as if I almost have to race my teammates. I know people advise against racing workouts but my coach is giving me specific times to hit and I just barely make them.
Also, during the few races we've had so far, I haven't been doing that great. In the dmr I ran the 1600 and was 4:55 or something, going through the 1500 in 4:36 I think.
I've also been thinking about how a lot of states don't have indoor track, so they use winter season as base for outdoor track. I was thinking of doing that while continuing racing? As if like not taking really short easy days before and after races, kind of just running through them.
So any advice on what to do about the workouts? And my thoughts on training through indoor season while still racing...? Thanks
