The aging of the baby boomers and all the medical care they require will place such an unbearable burden on the entitlement system that it will probably catalyze a revolt. The working generations, particularly the young, will not be willing to accept the tax burden of supporting Medicare/SS beneficiaries, especially once they realize that they will never see a penny of that money. The government will be forced to cut benefits, and so many doctors will quit accepting Medicare that the government will have to make it illegal not to accept it. Then the real downward spiral of medicine begins when the best and brightest doctors throw up their hands and quit. In short, it's going to be ugly.
It will expose the inability of government to serve as the great provider of society that the left wants it to be. The government has accumulated liabilities that it can never repay no matter how much it raises taxes. Many of those retrirees will die in poverty, without medical care, and there's nothing that "society" can do to prevent it now.
The govt will cut benefits only if and when tax payers vote for a party that promises to do so. This scenario is unlikely as more Americans get govt handouts than not and they're not going to bite the hand that feeds them.
Anyway, over the next 20 years the world is going to be a meaner place.
What was the question? As the baby boomers are the pig in the snake, ageing will be seen as a wonderful period of life. Boomers will extol to the not-so-fortunate generations of the exceptionalism of their generation, while we counter with demographics.

Do you have any concept that money doesn't grow on trees? Benefits will be cut when the government can no longer raise the moeny to honor them.
I agree with what you're saying. However, I think benefits will be shaved rather than cut so that those who receive benefits will get a little less (see the dodgy CPI figures). I also think that as the economy collapses, the govt will spread the love to the most voters possible.
I think you are right.

Taxes aren't extorted in love, and entitlements can't be paid in votes.

.
They pit the young against the old, black against white.
Don't be a damn fool. There is plenty of money in the pockets of the richest 1/10th of one percent that is doing nothing for anyone except serving as bragging rights.
Put the tax rates where they were 50 years ago and all our financial problems will disappear in a heartbeat.
So a few billionaires will have to get used to being worth only a few hundred million dollars. Boo-hoo.
Boomer here. We are going to tax the s^%$ out of all of you because we are a selfish group. Always have been, always will be. Better get the K-Y ready because it is going to hurt a lot!
