You are turning 18 years of age in a matter of weeks... Right now you are upgrading high school courses (you graduated last year) to gain university entrance requirements... You plan to study music, piano performance to be specific, seeing how you already play at a very high level, teach, and have 12 years experience...But you also have a passion for running, and although came out of high school with very mediocre times (lets just say 4:37 mile no quicker) you want to pursue your atheltics at all costs...
You have to make a decision- You and two friends, one of whom is in New Zealand at the present time and has met the great Arthur Lydiard, have this crazy idea of living, training, and working part time for the next year or two. But best of all you would train under the direction of one of the greatest athletics coaches of all time- Mr. Lydiard himself.
Do you move down to New Zealand, self funded 100% and have the time of your life?
Or do you simply stay put in Canada to attend University and compete?
moving down to New Zealand presents the immediate obstacle of finances- although there is a chance you could find work at a music college or conservatory in teaching (above average pay) but then again you don't get these years back and have the opportunity to meet Arthur Lydiard and train under his direction. You can still attend university after your hiatus, although the during the delay anything can happen which may alter your plans.
