HNY OMBTS and everyone else! Spent the morning on my favorite trail at South Mountain in Arizona. My last run before getting on a plane back to the midwest. Spent the holidays in Az and had a great time. Got right to work today on my yoga resolution so I'm on track week one.

Besides today, I ran one other time with my sister at 10:00 pace. 4 months ago, I would have scoffed at such a pace but now I'm just happy to be running (fairly injury free). Can't really run yet but it's coming.

PAC 10 seemed to be fairing well in the bowl games. Only a few left....so GO OREGON!

skin, my heart says Oregon but that could get ugly. Glad you are running again.

I thought it was Fillmore West but really not sure. Have the live CD around here somewhere, a double disc I believe.

I did a 5 mile New Years Dash this morning. It had been balmy around here for 2 days but then last night turned ugly. Race time 13 degrees with 25 mph sustained winds and 40 mph gusts. Did a terrible time of 36:55 but almost everyone else was equally hindered. Presently watching my alma mater against TCU in the Rose Bowl. Happy races in the New Year everyone. TC

Rather than sharing an all-too-typical week of relatively easy runs mixed with some uptempo stuff and water/bike supplements, here are a few "interesting" observations from the past couple of weeks of running:

1) For the first time, I ran by the site where Villard Street Pub used to be...a bit sad about that.

2) From the "it's so Eugene" department: the city has turned off the water fountains along the running trails, but kept them on at the dog parks.

3) Found an almost perfectly rolled joint along the bikepath last week.

4) Finally, a question: Why do people take the time to scoop the dog poop and put it into the bag then leave the bag smack dab in the middle of the trail?

OMBTS; That treadmill prose conjures up some vivid mental imagery to be sure. The Allman Bros. gave birth to a whole generation of Ramblin' Men. Add a little Fire On The Mountain from Marshall Tucker and letsrockon.

The PF that tagged my left foot all summer is but a memory.

Yet, I've been unable to mount a structured training campaign in pursuit of any race level fitness.

Sunday; 3 miles on streets.

Mon. tues. off

Weds. 2 hours X-C ski

Thurs. Rest

Fri. Spin trainer 34 minutes

Sat. 3 miles run, on the now closed snowmobile trail with Colonel, our older Border Collie.

Got to hand it to you TC. Just getting out the door this AM took plenty of intestinal fortitude. Racing in that wind, Wow.

Bushman, I love the Marshall Tucker Band and at one point in my life I had every album. The man who really started it all was a guy named Phil Walden who was the founder of Capricorn records. A genius of a man. Searching for a Rainbow, Fire on the Mountain, Cant you See, Toy and Tommy Caldwell were incredible musicians. Great taste in music !

Where has MF been ?

I almost never run without an ipod or radio. When I was in high school, I used to carry a small cassette player with me on my long runs out in the country. The volume would come and go as my arms swung!!! and I would have to switch hands every so often as it weighed a couple lbs.

I did my longest run of 7 miles at 12% incline on the treadmill on thursday and did my first outdoor run in 3 months the following day of 5 miles. Legs are sore from the downhills but I was pleased with the pace.

I just completed my first 70 mile week since 2005 and boy do I hurt. I may drop back to 60/65.

The rainy season has started here in Iraq and now I have about half as many places I can run since the mud is the kind that sticks and never comes off. It is all concrete running for a while.

It would be nice to be able to run with an ipod to break up the monotony but they are not allowed.

I thought he was going to run the Las Vegas half but don't remember hearing a race report or much in December.

great stuff this weekend. 7 miles at 12% incline.....jumping on the treadmill without regard for the color of one's socks.....racing in 13 degrees and high winds.....I'm inspired!

68 miles this week with treadmill hill repeats tuesday and a long run saturday. I started the new year with 20 miles incl. 2 X 5 at marathon pace. Went fine, but given how I feel this morning I think I'm unlikely to stay on 7,000 mile + pace for 2011.

I was home all week, so treadmill hills were at our neighborhood rec center rather than the gym at work. My wife was walking on the machine next to me, which I found helpful -- didn't want to quit in the middle of the workout with her there to witness. Maybe I should hire a personal motivational assistant to accompany me on all hard days?

Just completed my first two hour long run in a couple of years. Staying motivated to get some rather boring(and muddy) miles in here in Iraq since RUNINTHESUN is providing the motivation via example. Too bad I'm not fast enough to keep up!

Greetings swift old friends. My 2011 goals are to toe the line with many of y'all boys in the M50 middle distance races and/or any Masters gig. My 2 year injury bugs seems to be squashed and I have benefitted from 6 months of patient slow base miles plus one workout per week. It's true... recovery days are THE most important thing we manage in order to progress. Ran a proper 9-lapper tempo run on the track yesterday with Grant HS team. Coasted thru 3000 in 10:38. Feeling good. See some of y'all boys in ABQ.
