Have there ever been any NCAA teams as good as the first few on this list?

Something about that doesn't make sense.
UTEP, without a doubt. Stanford a few years back, arguably, though they weren't quite as deep in the long distances but were far superior in middle distance.
UTEP was the best ever, didnt oregon have salazar, chapa, and several other good runners on the same team? i think ken martin who would after finishing college ran a 2:09.38 at the new york city marathon, martin was 3-5 man.
wow! are they serious with those times?
Now only if there was a university in Kenya....
Looks like the top two teams each have one more sub-29 guy who are both out with injury. Seven guys with 28-min PBs is pretty solid, to say nothing of the half marathon times.
I would like to know more about this. How could there be so many legit teams? Does every top runner attend these few schools? Are these downhill races?

bump, I'm curious too
the best uni t&f teams produce student-athletes and graduates who win summer olympic medals, iaaf outdoor wc medals, and major roads medals. usc and ucla are the top two university t&f programs in the world and they have the medals to prove it.

Why does this happen every time we talk about the best college teams? The OP is clearly talking about distance running teams. Yes, I know Meb went to UCLA, but other than that those two schools are not distance running powerhouses. I have a feeling it's the same person that comes on here every time blabbing about UCLA and USC.
usc alums have the most maj mara wins
The undisputed two greatest track and field schools are the UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans. Between those two schools they brought back 20 T&F medals from Osaka 2007, Beijing 2008, and Berlin 2009.
