Writing this reflects really poorly upon you, not someone suggesting to "buy American", because the Tacoma is an American vehicle. (assembled in Fremont, California)
Every Japanese brand has at least one assembly location in the US (the "most American", and 5 of the top ten "most American" cars in 2010 are Honda and Toyotas)
Further, "buy American" has little to do with it. Frankly, it's about once a week that Toyota announces a NHTSA mandated recall, and the brand just topped the most complaints index.
The past is the past, you may have understood the car environment then, but clearly you need some help now, so disregarding the idea of "buying American" simply because you know about factory quality standards shows you don't know about factory quality standards. Foreign brands have routinely shown more problems, statistically, than domestic. Assembly location literally means nothing, unless you're buying a supercar.
Shop the Ranger, test drive it and the Tacoma on a rainy day, and buy the one you feel best about. The Colorado is a POS, don't bother, and there isn't another comparable truck on the market.
