Do you conclude anything from this?
Do you conclude anything from this?
No affirmative action?
Your research is flawed. That's what I conclude.
Only one British student of Black Caribbean background, I think you'll find.
But no, there is no affirmative action when it comes to universities in this country. At least not in terms of race, they're trying to even things out when it comes to private (public) schools, and state schools.
you're right, we need to get a lynch mob together.
I conclude that a black person is six times more likely to go to Cambridge than Oxford. Assuming they both have equal undergrad enrollment numbers in 2009, which I'm not going to do anything to confirm or deny, it's pretty much certain.
You know what they say: if you've seen one freshman class, you've seen 'em all.
I am at cambridge and you see almost no black people. It's kind of awkward.
It means that you are a troll who likes to see if he can get people riled up over the topic of race.
Next question.
No trolling. It was in Time magazine. Okay, I might be trolling a bit (but it was in Time). LOL!
Only 2% of the UK's population is black, so this is less surprising than you'd might think. Cambridge has 12,000 undergrads, or 3,000 per class. Cambridge has one-tenth the expected number of blacks (6 vs 60) if all admissions factors were equal.
A few factors:
*socioeconomics--much like the US, blacks earn less and are more impoverished. Nearly 50% of Black Britons live in poverty.
*desire to attend a "white" college--how many whites apply to Howard University?
*Family history--most blacks do not have an extensive history attending top universities, and I believe it is easier to get into Oxford or Cambridge if a relative attended.
I know nothing about the British system. What does a student have to do to be accepted at these schools (other than not be black, apparently)? Some sort combination of standardized testing and grades? Any idea of even how many black students apply? Perhaps 6 isn't bad if only 10 applied.
Had two black students in my subject at Oxford. Couldn't really tell one from the other. Both looked the same to me.
Identical twins huh?
How many were of Czech descent? Now there's a group that has a beef.
How many applied? I was part of a grad program once with 15 people in it. There were no blacks, someone complained, well- none applied, so how could we have any?
Maybe they didn't bother applying because they knew the admissions committee was racist toward blacks?
How much do these schools cost? Is there any financial aid or is it pay as you go?
Are there a lot of poor whites, or are these the exclusive domains of Eaton grads and of House of Lords' kids?
Numbers of blacks at other British universities?
And what is 'black'? Self identified? Both parents black? One parent? Other?

Both Oxford and Cambridge have really gone to the dogs.

Time Magazine is little more than a spanky-wearing cheerleader squad for the Democratic Party. It is not serious journalism.
